Plastic-free / low plastic body moisturiser

Does anyone have and recommendations for plastic-free or low plastic body moisturiser?

I've been trying solid lotion bars and they are ok but just don't seem to be keeping my lizardy legs under control. I think they seem to be more for the face, which is also the case for lots of other solid ones I've seen, so are also tiny and so not that useful for body lotion replacement!

TIA

I recently started use a facial moisturiser from Holland and Barratt (their own brand), that comes in a glass jar with an aluminium lid. They had slots of products in this range, so possibly they had body moisturiser.

I used to just olive oil on DS when he was a baby.

Lush do what they call solid body conditioners. You're supposed to use them in the shower but I find they get used up for to quickly that way and instead just rub them over my arms and legs when I'm dry but still warm from the shower then wait 5 minutes for it to soak in before getting dressed.
I also have very dry skin and they work pretty well for it.

Thanks both.

@Outtheforest is there one you'd recommend? I can never work out what half the lush products are supposed to do because of their dumb cutesy names... Googling lead me to CocoLoco, Minamisoma and Argon Dragon "body oil"? Is that it?

I just buy coconut oil from Holland and Barrett. It comes in a glass jar and has a range of other uses too (e.g. lip balm).

I like little pot of energy and the sleepy one but I think that might be exclusive to certain stores. Online they're under body lotions and are either naked body conditioner or naked body lotion.
If you cant get to a store to smell then little pot of energy is very citrusy so a safe bet if you like citrus scents.

Outtheforest · 24/09/2019 16:48

Actually looking at the website the only one regularly available is little pot of energy but three are being released in the Christmas line tomorrow.
My local store has about 8 to choose from so if you're anywhere near London or liverpool it might be worth a visit.

It might be a special edition, but I've seen the original (thick blue) Nivea cream in a large metal pot recently.

Apart from that, everything else I can think of is in a plastic jar or bottle, sorry! I've never tried any of the bar-type moisturisers.

Interesting- thanks all!

Nivea in a blue tin is around alot so that's a good option from pp.
Another option would be any of the lush cream moisturizers as you can take the black plastic pots they come in back for them to recycle/reuse. Also get given free things if you take enough back.

Branleuse · 25/09/2019 10:04

a glass jar of coconut oil

ChicCroissant · 25/09/2019 10:21

Usually Nivea is in a plastic tin or tube though! I have a slim metal tin but the one I saw recently was a whopper!

Ambassadorforthedog · 25/09/2019 13:39

Is Nivea tested on animals do you know?

ChicCroissant · 25/09/2019 14:52

It is so old it must have been at one time, I don't know if it is now.

Another vote for coconut oil - you can get it in a large glass jar with a metal lid from various places, including supermarket food section, health shops and chemists etc. I use it as a body moisturiser, make-up remover, massage oil, lip balm, hand cream and hair serum. It absorbs very quickly and is surprisingly un-greasy - and cheap!

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2019 09:53

I use Weleda tin tubes baby mosturiser because I have very dry skin too OP. It has no petroleum or sls products in it and is lovely. Annoyingly it has plastic tops and of course the tin tube , better than plastic though I suppose.

I'm allergic to coconut and I'm not sure how good it is for the environment where the trees grow because it's in everything now. I use almond oil with rose water for my face , it fights wrinkles!!!!

EnterFunnyNameHere · 11/10/2019 12:11

Hmm, I tried coconut oil for hands/face but found it just so greasy... maybe I was using too much?

@ppeatfruit is your almond oil and rose your own concoction?

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 11/10/2019 12:19

Yes, Enter I just put some drops of rosewater on my hand and mix with the oil before gently rubbing on my face or wherever, I do use it sparingly because both ingredients are expensive. Grin I'm asking for ess. oil of rose for an Xmas present.

EnterFunnyNameHere · 11/10/2019 13:08

Hmm, interesting! Is that just off amazon or similar? I've seen rose water about (albeit for cooking!) but not almond oil!

I get them in health food shops. I don't subscribe to Amazon. Though you can probably get them on there.

If you went to somewhere like Planet Organic, you get both products. There are cheaper makes of rose oil too. In posh chemists.
