Has anyone tried Terra Wash + mg for laundry?

Just ended up on this website, inspired by the revelation on the thread about washing temperatures that Japanese machines only wash in cold water.

This looks like A Good Thing: www.terrawashmg.com/

I've never had any success with eco balls, soap nuts etc, so before I buy this I was hoping to hear that someone else had found it life changing. Grin

Looks interesting! I'll do some scouting!

Good reviews on Amazon but not many. Looks quite expensive imo.

Yes, it's a lot of money if it doesn't actually work, isn't it?

I'd love to be able to wash stuff in cold water, but good though Splosh is, it's only really coping at 40+. Any other suggestions?

I'm having to compromise. I can wash at 20 but use just a little powder detergent. About an egg cup full, then about another egg cup of soda crystals and vinegar with a few drops of essential oils for fabric conditioner.

I tried Indian washing nuts but you have to wash at 40 to release the soap.

What about Dr Bronners? That's meant to be good, have you tried that.

Reluctant to buy more experiments that don't work.

ThighsRelief · 18/07/2019 01:44

I don't know if soda crystals are worse for the environment than powder.

I never know what vinegar is supposed to do, does it get rid of smells?

No haven’t tried Dr Bronners.

Ah, vinegar! The champagne of the ethical living thread. You put vinegar (white distilled) in the fabric softener bit of your machine. Also if you have tops etc which have got persistent smells at the armpits. Put vinegar on the armpits (not whilst wearing them) shove in machine and leave ten minutes before turning on.

Tbh it doesn't soften as much as people say, but it's better than nothing. It does work on sweat smells.

My towels are very hard now, I don't mind about that and won't replace them. I wonder though whether we are all reinventing the wheel and our concoctions are any less harmful than washing powder and fabric conditioner. I'm partially motivated by thrift, if I can make it myself cheaply I don't want to buy it. I've shaved £30 pw off my shopping by just refusing to buy any cleaning products except vinegar, bleach and washing up liquid. And gathering up every scrap of toiletries in a box so I can check before buying anything.

My sister has a B&B and gives me all the leftover soap and shampoo etc. I dream of a new bar of soap.

Ooh, I love a hard scratchy towel, fresh off the line. Yum.

Yes, I do have a few things with persistent smells, unless I wash them at 60. I currently use Splosh liquid on darks and their powder on lighter stuff, as it has brighteners in it and I don't want it to fade darker clothes.

I'm happy enough with the detergent usage in the house (Splosh everything, WGAC toilet rolls, no bleach), but washing on cold without being left with gussets that would fell a horse would be a winner.

Have you tried vinegar on armpits and washing up liquid on other stains? White distilled vinegar is 40p per 500ml at Tesco. I've done a wash at 60 and broke out the fabric conditioner too.

ThighsRelief · 18/07/2019 11:43

It pained me to use almost the required dose of Persil and Lenor. It becomes a little obsessive! I'd like to switch to reusable toilet roll wipes but will have to wait until the kids finally leave home. I can only go so far.

I was very sceptical about this but have been using it for the last 3 or so months and have been amazed.

They really work and would highly recommend.
