Is there a plastic free way to do frozen food

Im not always great with fresh food, I tend to forget its there and it goes off or else I only need a tiny amount for a recipe.

What do others do? Are there no plastic options? Do people buy loose and chop/blanch before freezing?

Glass if you dare, but even then you’d need some clingfilm to make it airtight. This is an interesting point OP, thanks for raising it.

I use the BPA free plastic boxes which I wash and reuse.

I already have plastic tupperwear which I may as well continue with, I think some of the bamboo crockery can be put in the freezer. If I did glass we'd most definitely be sweeping up broken glass off the kitchen floor all the time Grin.

Plastic is ok better if you reuse it lots. So plastic boxes.

I caught a tv clip the other day which I think was part of a programme dealing with this.
Entire casseroles were poured into enamel dish lined with good grease proof paper with a large hangover all round. Then frozen in the dish. Once frozen they were lifted from the dish, wrapped in the paper and secured with paper sticky labels. Then returned straight to the freezer. To defrost, the package was placed back into the enamel dish or other suitable container.
Saves space as well.

If you already have tupperware then just use that. If you haven't then buy some and use it! I've had some of mine for years and it's still absolutely fine despite being used over and over again.

I use glass dish Tupperware. The lid is still plastic though.
Its actually ideal as then they can be defrosted and straight into the oven in the same dish to reheat.
This way i freeze things like lasanges and cottage pies as complete ready to eat dishes. Soups and sauces in smaller versions.

I re-use, quite a few times before they tend to fall on the floor and shatter (cos I am clumsy!), the plastic boxes that takeaways come in.

I have a few pyrex glass dishes that can be frozen, useful for whole meals like lasagna/cottage pie etc, they come with plastic lids to fit tight (but tin foil/cling film works well too when the 1 lost lid is needed for the last dish).

And yes, I have a few more plastic tubs that are a bit more substantial for loose items (as those may be opened more frequently as I get some of the contents out), for veg that I have blanched, breadcrumbs from heels/leftovers, frozen berries for smoothies etc.).

But it's very hard to do home freezing without plastic tubs - a well sealed tin foil packet would work, but not as well nor as long. Freezing in the packaging they come in can work too - but not paper packets.

I use chinese takeaway boxes. Ask family and friends to keep them for you.
I have over a hundred easily with almost all in use at any one time. Saves energy for cooking aswell

I keep anything with a lid, so spread tubs, etc, and reuse and reuse until they break. We also reuse bagel bags with a clippit for anything more solid being frozen, e.g. chicken breasts, salmon fillets.

I store so much stuff in ordinary glass jars - honestly they never crack. I just don’t fill to the top. Have a read

I have quite a few Pyrex containers which come with plastic lids. I also have different sized silicone cake cases - once the food is frozen it just pops out to be wrapped and stored. To defrost I unwrap and put it into the same container or whatever I’ll be using to cook/reheat in
