Beeswax/other wraps, fabric snack bags - recommendations please?

As a family we have recently started taking sandwiches/snacks to work more. I often use old takeaway containers but these are not very convenient in a rucksack as we cycle to work. Currently getting through a huge amount of very cheap plastic sandwich bags to cart things about. Looking at reusable alternatives and there is just too much choice!

Can anyone recommend beeswax wraps or some other reusable soft way of carrying a sandwich? Fabric sandwich wrap? Also snack bags, large and small. I do have a sewing machine but virtually no free time. I'm sure anything I buy will work out more expensive than the plastic and not got a huge budget so want to make good choices!

Thanks

I use tin foil which is recycled

Re used then recycled!

A budget option which cuts down on plastic use (but doesn't eliminate it altogether) is to buy more robust plastic bags and wash and reuse them several times - the Ikea ones are good for this, they can be reused many, many times. Also reusing plastic that you would otherwise throw away, like the plastic inner bag from a cereal box or bread wrappers.

Thanks for the suggestions - I fear that tin foil or heavier plastic bags wouldn't make it home which is why I'm thinking of some sort of fabric/waxed alternative. I've been on a site called boobalo (saw it on this topic!) and they seem to have some options. I think I just can't face the vast amount of choice on Amazon 😳😃

I really like beeswax wraps, with string and plastic bag around - I find the plastic bag stays “clean” and so can be re-used. Good luck finding something!

What's wrong with a good old fashioned sandwich box? There are bamboo ones or just good old plastic. We have them, mine last 2-3 years (for almost daily use), till they get worn out....

Good old plastic we're drowning in? And if it only lasts 2 or 3 years it's not too good, is it? It'll end up in landfill and never degrade.

Wax wraps are easy to make - just cut a square of cotton fabric of the right size (google commercial ones) and iron on wax ( from an art supply shop or grated unscented uncoloured candle). It took about 10 minutes to do 3 large and 6 small.

I cycle and they stay together enough in the bottom of my rucksack, but don't hold the sandwich together as well as cling film. Sometimes a slice of tomato has to be slotted back in at lunch time. There is an art to the folding - I find it best to double fold the seam and then tuck the ends in under the seam.

My friend makes brilliant sandwich wraps!
I’ve got a few. They are material with a plastic/material backing so waterproof/grease proof. Machine washable. Much cheaper (and better) than the ones I saw in Waitrose.
I think she does snack bags too now.

On Facebook as EdieBees.
Not sure how to link.. sorry!
