Awesome good for you! We’ve got them too.

YellowSkyBlue · 24/01/2019 19:45

Great and well done! You got them before the deadline this year to get money back from the grid too. So jealous. How much do you think it will cut your bills by?

MayhemandMadness01 · 24/01/2019 19:47

Can I be cheeky and ask how many panels and how much?

KatyMac · 24/01/2019 20:36

I'm not sure about the bill reduction as we have economy 7 so run everything at night - we have to relearn now!!!

Put the dishwasher on at midday!

Messaged you mayhem

OP posts:
mammmamia · 24/01/2019 20:59

Yes it takes some getting used to - running everything in the middle of the day!

KatyMac · 24/01/2019 21:05

And charging phones/bike batteries over night! Need to plan more

Have you looked into getting a storage battery so you can use your daytime solar power overnight? They’re not cheap but it means you’re not wasting any & if there happened to be an energy crisis any time you’d have some self-sufficiency?

GiantKitten · 24/01/2019 21:41

I looked into it m, but we use 10-12kwh a day, & with a small terraced house roof we were only going to generate 3-4kWh.

I think at that time (2 years ago maybe) a battery was £7-8k

KatyMac · 24/01/2019 21:42

Yes there is about to be a revolution in batteries but it hasn't happened yet

I'd better check how much elec we use

OP posts:
GiantKitten · 24/01/2019 21:45

Oh, better than that - £4k at time of fitting, £6k as retro fit (& it was actually nearly 3 years ago - should be even cheaper now?)

KatyMac · 24/01/2019 21:47

I use 1993 daytime and 616 nighttime units

But I don't know what they are

OP posts:
KatyMac · 24/01/2019 21:51

I think they are KWhrs so if I make 3.3 high summer!!

And I use 5.5 a day......there won't be much spare

OP posts:
GiantKitten · 24/01/2019 21:58

only 2600 per day? & your max generation will be 3300? You'll have spare in the summer!

where does the 5.5 figure come from though?

KatyMac · 24/01/2019 22:04

1993 divided by 365?

Am I on the wrong track?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 24/01/2019 22:05

The 1993 is the difference between my meter reading last January and this January for the day & 616 for the night

OP posts:
KatyMac · 24/01/2019 22:14

Have I done that worng?

OP posts:
GiantKitten · 24/01/2019 22:14

oh, sorry! I misunderstood completely! I've no idea how I managed that Confused

So your annual usage is 2600kwh. gotcha! (ours is much more than that, about 3700. ) total daily usage about 7. you'd be able to keep using economy 7?

KatyMac · 24/01/2019 22:17

I rang and asked and they said yes

OP posts:
KatyMac · 24/01/2019 22:18

So it will half in high summer and maybe a quarter spring/autumn so maybe a third of my electric overall?

OP posts:
GiantKitten · 24/01/2019 22:41

Looks like it! Excellent! Smile

KatyMac · 25/01/2019 22:57

I got 0.1 yesterday & 1.4 today!!

OP posts:
GiantKitten · 25/01/2019 23:37

1.4kwh in January sounds pretty good!

KatyMac · 28/01/2019 13:09

OMG

Todays generation is 7.6 kWh

My average usage is 7.5

Wow!

I would love solar panels - very envious!
