Any suggestions? Is ecoever any good? I don't really get what's eco about it! Thanks :)

I'm using mine up and then switching back to powder, or possibly making some. I think powder in a card box is the way to go.

Powder??? I've never heard of that thanks!

It used to be the only option (like washing powder). Sainsbury's do their own still, and Finish still make it. It's not always in a box though. Cheaper than tablets.

Ecover brought my DS out in massive hives, it was almost instant. Also, I read something about Ecover not actually being that 'environmentally friendly' because although they've taken out sulphate, in order to still clean they've added something worse? That's a massive para phrase, I'll see if I can find the article.

I bought one of those Eco balls, it's £10 and lasts for a year (or 200 something washes). I was a bit sceptical but it's great, no chemicals and you don't need softener either.

I hate that they are all wrapped in plastic! I've not heard of powder but will research it.

Sorry! I got the wrong end of the stick - I thought you were talking about clothes washing not dishwashing Blush

I buy ecozone dishwasher tablets and just use half a tablet per cycle

I have seen some online. Ecover is the brand name and I think it costs about 5 to $6.

After reading on here about someone else doing it, I run the Dw with no detergent at all if there’s nothing particularly dirty, no meat/fish etc. So like a load of water cups and cereal bowls and toast plates. Stuff comes out fine and no detergent smell, which I hate.

Otherwise I use Ecover tablets - I’ve always been unsure about their ‘eco’ status but they have the least worst smell of all the ones I’ve tried - I only use half or a third each time.

It depends on your criteria for “Eco” really. EU legislation has massively reduced the amount of phosphates allowed in dishwasher detergents, which was one of the major problems. And single use plastic is arguably a very big issue, which is hard to avoid at present. Sainsbury’s own brand dishwasher powder is in a cardboard pack with no plastic so I’m currently using that. I don’t think this is a perfect solution, but I’m not aware that there is one.
