I'm generally trying to live a more sustainable life and wondered if anyone had any tips? Or any information to share? The internet is way too overwhelming on the subject.

DH and I moved to meat-free about two years ago now. And we've managed to swap all the standard stuff (stainless steel straws, local fruit and veg, bamboo loo roll, no Evian bottles, our rare coffees are in reusable cups). But struggling to break through the next step.

Bathroom products are baffling me. I'm nervous about moving to shampoo bars for example.

Cleaning products are also a struggle. So much plastic!!! But what the hell do I use instead?

And tbh, I feel like I'm winging it. It's way too easy to be misinformed about things these days!

Thanks

splosh for cleaning stuff. i have a discount code i can post in the morning. The refils come in the post.,

shampoo bars are ok. toothpaste bars take a bit of getting used to.

I have never come across Splosh and I couldn't even guess how many hours I've spent googling this stuff! I've had a look and it looks fab. Any products no good? Or is the quality generally good? Thank you ☺️

I've had more success in the bathroom and with cleaning products than anywhere else!

I started by swapping liquid hand soap for bars of soap throughout the house, and we also now use a bar of soap instead of shower gel. Only downsides are that I think the kids wash their hands (even) less thoroughly and the soap seems to create more gunk in the plug holes and scum around the sinks and baths.

Also now using shampoo and conditioner bars instead of bottles. I started with Lush ones but last time ordered online from Funky Soap Shop. I've got long curly dry hair, but am managing ok with the bars now that I've got the balance of how much to use and how long to rinse right.

For cleaning I'm refilling old cleaning spray bottles with a mixture of concentrated Ecover general purpose cleaner, vinegar, water and a splash of scented disinfectant. Seems to work just fine on most things. I do have a bottle of bleach for occasional cleaning up of really nasty stuff!

It's the food shopping that I'm finding the hardest as I just don't have the time or budget for markets, milk deliveries and veg boxes.

Good luck :)

Have you looked at a ‘no waste shop’ in your area?

BlackInk Ecover is not so ethical, they’ve been taken over by SC Johnson about half a year ago.
