How much do I need to worry about PVC in dd's weaning spoons/cups etc

Right, I've got the Green Baby catalogue (feel free to call me a middle class sucker, I can handle it) and they are quite big on cups, weaning spoons etc being PVC free. Which is fair enough (and they explain their reasons), except that I can't find any mention of it anywhere else.

So, are they the only people worried about this (am I the only person now worried about this?) or are all kids weaning bits PVC free and I will be paying over the odds for normal kit if I get it from them.

And, if other stuff does has PVC in it, where can I get a PVC free training cup seeing as they have sold out?

Confused? I certainly am...

"Middle class sucker" - I like it.

I'm sure you could buy a small wooden spoon from a cookery store if you really wanted to.

Honestly, no I don't worry about that stuff.

good lord !

I had this from an advert for BabyPots in BabyGroe magazine in the booking-in Bounty Pack

don't worry about it

or if you decide to, get a nice smooth expensive metal teaspoon from John Lewis, buy cheap glass / china stuff from Ikea and spend a lot of time sweeping up shards

They're lovely, but they're 27 squid?!? Even my middle class suckerdom doesn't extend that far.

Consider me to have stopped worrying, but do carry on telling me I'm an idiot if you feel like it...

If you want to use PVC, use it. If you dont, dont.

The hard part is deciding what you want to believe, as well as taking into account where the evidence is coming from, for what purpose, and how much you choose to be influenced by that.

I prefer not to use PVC for a few reasons, but fear of my children 'ingesting chemicals leaching from PVC' is not one of them. Its more about the 'throwaway-ability'. PVC is really hard to recycle in any form, not just in toddler stuff. If i dont buy it, i dont throw it away into landfill.

Training cups and such things are fairly new to the market - i am sure that children learnt to drink from a cup without the 'training' part.

Habitat sell bamboo camping cutlery is you want to swing totally in the other direction!

This one has a limit. I bet they're selling like hot lattes in Notting Hill though.

for me I mean

squidette · 01/05/2007 21:40

Its great - i have a set hiding with the tin plates.

sorkycake · 01/05/2007 21:42

Why can't babies use the stainless steel ones like adults, just a teaspoon size instead? Special baby cutlery is a stupid concept imho.
