Alternatives to cling film and sandwich bags

I’d like to start to reduce the amount of plastic we use. I think starting with single use things like cling film and sandwich bags are a good starting point.
But what do I replace them with?

Dcs need something for sandwiches to go in in lunch bags so they don’t get squished. Is buying Tupperware just as bad? Obv it’s plastic but it would get lots and lots of use rather than the single use bags. Is there something better?

What about cling film?
I don’t have enough plates to use them to cover bowls/ mugs etc in the fridge.
What do you swap cling film for?

Reading this back I sound utterly clueless! 😳

Fantastic Bellinisurge! I went out and got some more fabric today, and DD aged 9 made one (together). She loved it, and way more eco friendly than spending the afternoon making slime!

I know this is an old thread but I've got one of these on my Christmas list. They're from Scotland, wipe clean and prisoners actually make them, earning a wage and learning a new skill.

torthecatlady - I love those!

I love my new beeswax wraps but they do have their limitations as I found out yesterday - Got some hot toast from Costa and asked if they could put it in my wrap - what a wally, Hot+beeswax= melt! I had to quickly whip it out and wave it around to cool it down - not a good look!

This would do the trick for hot sarnies/toast/bagels etc.

Thanks for sharing, I'll be getting some for Xmas pressies.

I keep the fresh meat in its packaging and freeze it, use cheap plastic boxes from wilko to store cooked food, , sauces go into yoghurt pots or milk bottles, sandwiches go in paper mushroom bags I collect from the supermarket.

We have always used tubs - cliplock ones. They last a child's who school life unless they get lost! In the house I have large tubs for leftovers to reduce clingfilm use but I still use some as it's environmentally good to save leftovers rather than throwing them! Sometimes if it's a lot, I put the saucepan in the fridge.

Ps good quality plastic tubs like Tupperware are so solid they are a family heirloom - I have my late grandmothers from the 60's/70's! Only single use plastic is bad.

Not cheap but so far I’m finding one of these useful: www.johnlewis.com/stasher-silicone-multi-purpose-kitchen-storage-bag-aqua/p3244592

I got the kids some click lock lid square boxes(£1 Asda) just the right size to put a sandwich in and small enough to fit in their lunch bag, they were pleased not to have squashed sandwiches anymore!
