Is it me or are we being bombarded with even more paper than ever before. It doesnt matter how often I cull the mountain on my desk, next time I turn around and its the same again.

How many times does the same takeaway need to put a leaflet through the door

Letters addressed to the homeowner or car owner (go away if I want to do business with you I will contact you)

Every time I open a magazine (and I have cut down on buying magazines from 3 a week to an occasional) I get a shower of leaflets from in it.

Mail order - I use their website, order online and get e-mails from them....why do they need to send me catalogues and reams of "offers"

We then have to pay the council to come and collect it all from us for recycling....Grrr

There is definitely more paper than ever before.

I started "returning to sender" all catalogues with a "remove from mailing list" message, it has helped a bit. My problem is previous residents, I get endless trade stuff and they don't take any notice of my campaigns to return to sender address unknown.

You can put some kind of message on your letterbox, no circulars (any better wording anyone?)

You can register with the mailing preference service unwanted post

Mags contain inserts because it makes money - just like an advertisement except loose. I can't remember whether loose inserts are considered more effective or just cheaper. But I hate them too!

Im registered with the mailing preference service and that has helped tons...the postman puts tons of crap in though (actually hes the worst offender)

Perhaps I should start shaking my magazines in the shop so they go all over the floor...LOL perhaps we should ALL do that then let the newsagent deal with it.

I just dont understand why its necessary for the mail order companies to duplicate stuff...surely e-mailing it to me is enough I dont need a paper copy too.

Oh, don't hassle the poor newsagent, they aren't responsible for the clutter (and you'd just be encouraging the mags to use more polywraps which are much worse for the environment). Independent newsagents really suffer from competition from Tesco and other big supermarkets.

i agree, though i wouldn't mind all magazines to be availble online. they seem such a waste. but that will never happen

Oh never thought of that Edam.

Ive just had to get the TV manual out...DH said it wasnt working & to call someone so I thought id check the troubleshooting section first.

I had a panic as the manual was about 3 inches thick....only 16 pages were in english!! I have now ripped out all the other languages and put them into recycling.

Oh & switched TV & Sky off at the wall...hey presto its all working (men)
