Your experience using reusable coffee mugs

I am becoming more and more aware of the dangers of plastic and of how much waste we produce. And have decided to give a go to use reusable coffee mugs for Starbucks/Costa coffee.
I get a coffee from them about once, perhaps twice a week, on my way to work and, even if I enjoy the pre-order option, I am happy not to pre-order if that means I can handle them my reusable cup:).
But before buying one, I would like to hear experiences on how this is well received by the coffee shop staff.
For example, in Starbucks they write your name on the cup. Would they do the same on my reusable one? And do they know how much coffee to put in there or do you tell them?
Thank you!

Contigo for the win! Though I actually mostly make my coffee at home and take it with me these days. But no one bats an eyelid if you take one into a coffee shop, except in Patisserie Valerie where they always look very confused.

I've got a klean kanteen flask. Keeps my drink hot for hours (serious risk of burning mouth at lunchtime from a drink bags in the morning!) Has a cafe lid so you can drink straight from it but still leakproof.

Contigo for me too. I brew a cafetiere of coffee at breakfast time, drink a cup and stick the rest in my contigo, then drink it on my way to work.

Contigo is fab!

Keeps drinks hot for four hours!

Though I'm a SAHM... but saves reheating my coffee!

I also use it when we go on walks.

You get I think 25p off in both Starbucks and Costa for using a reusable cup. Not sure about Pret.

The Pret I went to yesterday did 50p off.

I did laugh a little at comment by special. Only because it reminded me of when the water machine at work was broken. My colleague looked horrified and said "but where shall I get cold water from"
I may have replied "the novel thing called a cold tap?" Grin

I have the £3 waitrose one too and find it very robust, washes well too. I volunteer for Oxfam and we have bamboo ones in store (brand new), think they're £7.

I have a glass keep cup with a cork sleeve. Perfect!

I love my contigo too. Keeps warm for ages, doesn't leak even if you tip it ups down, and sturdy. I even dropped mine on the floor and it's still ok apart from a bit of a dent.

It's a good idea. If it wasn't that we see a lot of dirty cups, some with crumbs in , that are brough to the coffee shop to refill Confused

FourOnTheHill · 11/01/2018 18:03

I was in pret this morning. My lovely contigo mug was the only travel mug there despite the 50p off Confused

I have a pot one I can't stand the taste/smell of tea in plastic or metal

Took my Contigo into a coffee shop this morning. No discount (fair enough) but she made the coffee in a paper cup, tipped it into my mug then threw the paper cup away. I tried explaining but she looked baffled.

I've been using the rcup and got it from reco.shop which is a new website that's sells lots of sustainable products which are worth checking out
