Reusing waste water

Just wondering if it's possible to reuse water from the condenser dryer? It looks a bit filmy, so I presume there is some residue of washing product in it.

I won't need the dryer all that much in the summer, but if using Ecover, do you reckon I could water shrubs in the garden with the water? Is that bonkers?

There's bound to be another drought this summer. Seems a shame to just tip it away.

Does anyone save the water that you run off when waiting for the hot to come through to the kitchen? Have now got a pretty big garden and whilst mostly decked, there are lots of plants. Do I get a water butt and empty my washing up bowl into it? [clueless]

It's not bonkers at all. You probably could use it especially as you use Ecover. I would type 'grey water' into google and see what I found.

Re the water butts, now is the time to get one if not more! They'll run out as summer approaches. Can you get it attached to a downpipe from your gutters so that you catch the rain too? We've got three, all linked so they fill up one after another. And yes, I use a washing up bowl to collect water and add that to the water butts.

I keep a little watering can by the sink and collect the water while you're waiting for it to get hot and then use it for the inside plants.

I'm pretty sure you can use bathwater for plant watering (you can siphon it out of the window with a hose), so I'd imagine you'd be okay with the condenser-dryer water. I use the water from our dehumidifier to water indoor plants, and that's a bit 'filmy' too.

Excellent. Thanks for those tips. I'm about to buy a compost bin, so I'll order a couple of butts as well.

Thanks!

Waste water from indoor use is a perfect medium for growing bacteria, though, so make sure you use it up quickly; fine to flush the loo, mind.
