We need a new kettle, I have seen the eco kettle but am wondering if a stove top kettle is more eco friendly than an electical one? Any thoughts?

I believe plug-in ones are quicker to boil - I often boil water in my kettle before pouring it in a saucepan and cooking veg or whatever. We have all electric cooking (no gas in village) so think it is probably greener too, although I don't know if that applies to gas cookers.

If you have an Aga, then a stove top kettle would be a great idea. I dont think they are more environmentally friendly if used on electric/gas stoves though. I am not sure of these eco-kettles either - apart from looking hideous, i wonder why i cant just put less water, ie one or two cups full, in my existing kettle.... which i already do.

I will be interested in the responses as i am also in need of a new kettle!

if you have a gas stove then no

if you have an electric stove (and a green electricity provider) then there's probably not a lot between that and a normal electric kettle with the right amount of water in.

Thanks for your responses so far, agree about hideous looks of eco kettle and putting only what you need in normal kettle, we have gas hob so stove top not so good from what has been said here - will have a look for one that takes v small amounts of water.
