Rechargeable batteries - why not in toys?

Why do toys tell you not to use rechargeable batteries? Of all the battery-operated stuff in our house, the toys use batteries quickest, and yet most seem to say that you should not use rechargeable batteries. Why? Is there a good reason? Or are they in cahoots with duracell?

don't know - we always have but they don't keep their charge very well if the toy put away and not used.

maybe that's why then. so long as the toy's not going to blow up, i think i'll risk it

They are rubbish in toys. They last for zilch amount of time and have to be recharged so often that you end up replacing them as often as you would normal batteries.

I think it's because they are not powerful enough. Put them in DS's mobile once they lasted about 10 minutes!!!
