Washing nappies with soapnuts - advice please!

Hi
I've just invested in a bag of soapnuts and had a couple of questions about using them to wash nappies.
With powder I use less than the recommended amount - do I still use 4-6 half shells of soapnuts or less than this?
Also I've been using nappysoak in a prewash (seems to help with ammonia problem) do you think it's this would affect the soapnuts?

I would think you'll have to experiment on how many shells. I would think start by trying 4 half shells -- personally I need about 10 half shells, so am envious, you must have very soft water.

Prewash shouldn't affect anything for the worse, perhaps how long they last.

I use these they are fab I use about 4-6 for a normal wash so prob need 6+ for nappies.
You could rinse off the pre wash?but I don't think it will affect them that much.

I find my washing comes out very soft , much better than using the wash balls!

I'm new to soapnuts too, and I must say they have impressed me! Anyways, I use the usual 6, didn't think for reducing down like normal washing powder as I thought being natural and not overloaded with detergent chemicals it didn't matter. Should I be using less?

Can't help with the nappysoak, I wet pail mine with bicarbonate of soda if really smelly/pooey, otherwise I don't bother. The nappies come out ammonia free all the same.
