You can get them from Lakeland. Quite pricey though IIRC, but nice enough.

But do they actually need to be anything special? Does a charcoal filter thingy really make any difference? I need experiences please What does everybody use?

I use ds's used paper lunchbag and leave it under the sink for a few days until full. doesn't smell at all and is dead easy - just chuck it all on the heap.

we use plastic purpose made one with charcoal thingy in lid.

works for us

actually have 2 - one for compost and one for food digester

We've got one of the white pottery ones from Lakeland - no smells, and looks quite nice.

We just use plastic cartons - big ones. Empty it every few days, no problem! It only smells if we put in fruit/veg that's already gone manky. And then we just empty it! Wash the carton in the dishwasher - practically free. Not very elegant though.

on teh kitchen window sill inside I use a lakeland plastic tub with carcoal filter. no flies, no smell. In last house i kept a small bucket outside teh kitchen door in teh yard.
One household I lodged in used an open terracotta pot inside- that would get overfull and rank and seemed to breed flies in summer.

I just have my old nappy bucket with a lid on my utility room windowsill.

An old nappy pail with a lid from Mothercare (around £5, if I remember correctly) is great. Doesn't smell.
