And of so are they any good, or are they a faff? what do you use in place of fabric softener?

what do you actually do with them. I hope this is in the right place. my dd is having an eczema flare up and is looming a nit of a state at the moment. I was having a Google regarding washing powders and soap nuts came up. I was wondering if anyone has noticed a difference with their or their children's skin and whether it's worth the cost.

all information great fully received

Soap nuts were good but not for everything. Used them for a bit but back to bio d.

I used soapnuts for a while (can't remember how long I stuck with them but must have been several months). This was about 3-4 years ago. They did not work well and actually discolored some of my clothes.

I'd just buy whatever eco friendly detergent is on sale. BioD powder is good and I think the packaging is compostable. It's minimal anyway.

Probably shouldn't admit this on this board but I've given up on eco friendly washing powder. It's too expensive for us. I must admit cost was one thing soapnuts had going for it! We use washable nappies and do a minimum of 1 load of washing a day. It's annoying because I don't understand why it's expensive. If only we could convince ASDA or a big name supermarket to produce a generic name brand powder. I bet it'd be cheaper!

I used them a long time ago and they were OK. Then I moved from a soft water area to a hard water area and they were totally ineffective.

I started to grate bars of soap to mix with soda crystals. That worked well. Then I started working full-time and it all went out of the window. Just trying to get back on wagon and stop using liquid detergents, so moving to Aldi washing powder. May grate some soap over the summer holiday ...
