Shall I give my neighbours a talking to?

I really make an effort to buy things without packaging and recycle everything possible meaning our grey waste bin is only half full at the fortnightly collection. Went to add an extra bag to our bin after it had been put out and - horror of horrors - discovered that the neighbours had again taken advantage of our efforts and had filled our bin already with their overflow. And a lot of the stuff on top could have been recycled - i was really annoyed. Not sure which neighbours it was but could be the SUV drivers next door . What should I do?

nothing

docket · 24/11/2006 18:50

How annoying! I'd be tempted to say something but you don't want to 'accuse' the wrong neighbour do you?! Can you booby trap the bin instead?!

Radley · 24/11/2006 18:50

To be honest i can't see the problem as long as your last bin bag was taken away.

I quite often used our next door neighbours bin, they are quite aware and don't mind as I always ask first.

amynnixmum · 24/11/2006 18:52

I've had this happen and i took the bag out and left it on the path. It did happen again

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 24/11/2006 18:53

Could you leave a note on the bin asking them not to do it, as you often need to put stuff in at the last minute and it's annoying to come out and find it filled with someone else's rubbish?

amynnixmum · 24/11/2006 18:58

Oooh - I meant it didn't happen again Must stop drinking wine so early

Blu · 24/11/2006 19:02

But isn't it better in your bin than on the path?

amynnixmum · 24/11/2006 19:08

I wouldn't mind if they had asked Blu and tbh if I hadn't needed to put more of my own rubbish in my own bin I wouldn't have even realised but i did and there was no room left for mine so theirs came out. I wasn't just being petty - I needed the space for my own rubbish and if they had had the curtesy to ask me about it (I was in ) I could have told them that.

Sheraz · 24/11/2006 19:21

I think it's a bit of a cheek to do this without asking. Next time can you put your bin out at the last minute, then they can't do it again! Neighbour wars - love it!

daisy1999 · 24/11/2006 19:23

what a bloody cheek! I would be soo mad

ballbaby · 26/11/2006 18:46

It's the fact that I make an effort to recycle - if my bin was always full they would have to make an effort - but they don't make an effort because they can use my bin - so what am I making an effort for! Nothing!

All too soon you will be charged for the amount of rubbish you produce......you wouldn't pay for their rubbish...would you?

ballbaby · 26/11/2006 19:04

I will definitely have something to say then! Too bloody polite at the moment.

Dust your bin for fingerprints then invite the neighbours around for Xmas drinks. A quick match up from fingerprints from the drinking glasses and then you can announce the winner of 'the selfish neighbour from hell'.

ballbaby · 27/11/2006 18:14

Ah-ha - you'd make a supersleuth worldgonewild!
