I've decided to go eco friendly.

So far i am:

Usign eco products
I have got some eco toothpaste
Eco Shower Gel
Eco Mouthwash
I use dishwasher on eco
Hang washing out where ever possible
When i used to bring washing in I put it in tumbler, now i put it on the airer
Recycle ALL paper

I've ordered a sample of soap nuts, eco balls and dryer balls

Only thing is, hubby is laughing at me and not at all interested, his attitude is really pissing me off.

Recycle him?

sugarfree · 02/11/2006 17:41

Well done! But where is your mooncup?
(not literally)

EcoWarrior · 02/11/2006 17:43

SenoraPostrophe · 02/11/2006 17:52

eco toothpaste? that's bicarbonate of soda isn't it?

sorry.

all sympathy to you. My dh is generally supportive, and is very good at recycling. but even we have the odd blazing row about things like leaving lights on or buying the smaller freezer. he doesn't laugh though - I think that's out of order whatever the issue.

EcoWarrior · 02/11/2006 18:26

Well,

I've just checked e-mail and for filling in a very short questionnaire, they are sending me 2 energy saving lightbulbs.

Result!!!

PinkTulips · 02/11/2006 18:32

ooo, can you pass on the questionarre.

sorry your dh is being annoying, luckily mine is quite tolerant of all my tree hugging hippy schemes, was even mildly excited about soapnuts. and he loooooves anyrthing that saves us money so if he's being a bit iffy i just give him the 'but think of all tha money we'll save line', actually i think thats the only reason he was excited about soapnuts as he'd always viewed laundry expenditure with raised eyebrows and hefty sighs.

don't forget to buy some microfibre cloths, they clean really well with no need for harsh chemicals, and for when you do need something stronger theres some really good homemade cleanser recipes knocking about the place, check good housekeeping or environment boards for the last few days, there was on just yesterday i think

EcoWarrior · 02/11/2006 18:39

here is the questionnaire that you wanted.

If you want a mooncup please see my thread in 'health' on "Who wants a cheap Mooncup?" or email me at frannyandzooey at india dot com.

Sorry your dh is being an arse. Don't know what to suggest, really. Try to find a few supportive friends and then just ignore him on this particular issue, maybe.

FrannyonFire · 02/11/2006 18:43

Can you try that link again? If you just copy and paste the url on here I can do the rest, if that helps

FrannyonFire · 02/11/2006 18:43

Ah I have it

link

worldgonewild · 02/11/2006 22:26

Careful FoF. All this environmental stuff, it's addictive! Once you get started you can't stop. Just put hubby on a lead...he'll follow.

jampots · 02/11/2006 22:27

do you use e-cloths for cleaning?

jampots · 02/11/2006 22:28

e cloths

EcoWarrior · 03/11/2006 08:20

Hey all, thanks for the replies.

Yes I do have some e-cloths, I've been using them for a while, I think they are great and bring up windows a treat.

simple things to do... turn off lights when not in that room. ReUse a box or bag for life at supermarket. refuse carrier bags when you don;t need them.
sorry about the unsurportive hubby. does he buy into the cash saving aspect at all? don;t know how to change him , mines about as light green as i am.

EcoWarrior · 04/11/2006 07:49

He's all for saving money, but, doesn't want to do anything sbout it and wants to leave it to me.

sadierhianne · 04/11/2006 12:02

IN stead of E Cloths buy the mucgh cheper versions sold on supermarkets, they are just under £1 instead of just over £4.

I'd implement the changes regardless of the support, he will have to toe the line and in time he will get used to your changes and like my DH maybe start to get involved too.

men don't seem to enjoy taking time out to contribute to domestic things, they like ease but as i said when they see the environmental benefits and the economic benefits it is a spur.

Put aluminium foil behind all of your radiators to reflect the heat up into the room rather than allowing it all to absorb into the walls.

Energy saving lightbulbs are a must. Close curtains as soon as it starts to get dark - line all curtains - this helps to keep heat in.

Us the eco button on your washer. Invest in eco balls.

Wear a jumper of have a blanket on the sofa and put becak the time that the heating comes on - tun the heating off an hour before you go to bed - chances are tyhe house has warmed up by that time anyway and will stay warm enough for the last hour.

Close all doors on room s that aren't used and turn of the rads in those rooms.

make sure that all draughts are elmiminated - a bolster at the bottom of external doors will help reduce draughts.

Clean using vinegar and water, soda crystals etc - tea tree oil added to your vinegar cleaner will make it antibacterial.

Start to make your own shampoo/soap/handwash - loads better for your skin, the environment and overall your finances.

Good luck.
