A washing line has made a big difference!

Two years ago we swapped our tumble dryer for two washing lines(one inside, one out) and we have noticed it has made a big difference to our bills.
The tumble dryer uses a lot of power but it also affects the air quality in the house by making it hotter which then makes the air conidtioning work to(a double energy user!!)
There are some new innovative washing lines out there and i just wanted to let everyone know they do make a difference, to your bills and the planet.
We got ours off a site that specialises in just washing lines which you can find at washing lines or if anybody else knows of other sites or stores lets post them here for all to see.

also, tumble drier makes your clothes look old. also they smell of tumble drier not the lovely conditioner.
there is nothing better than fresh bedding off the washing line in the height of summer...

where I live (in the USA) you are not allowed to 'peg out' - I mean really against local by law type not allowed. We move back to the uk next year and I can't wait!!!

mamamaaargh · 27/10/2006 04:04

Us too Apronstrings. Can't wait to get back to the UK & my washing line in the garden!

What the? America is mad - mad!

I love hanging my washing out. Nothing nicer than looking at a line of washin IMO - sad aren't I?

I live in Budapest and we can only hang outside for about 6 months - have one of those rotary lines and I LOVE April when we can start to hang outside. Have had to stop now - about 2 weeks ago as it just wasn't getting dry (although last fews days have been warm so prob be OK).

Over the winter I dry indoors in the boiler room. Hang it up at night and it's usually dry by morning.

I have a washer/dryer combo but don't use teh dryer much - makes me feel guilty and I am not keen on clothes that have been dried in dryer. Struggle a bit around Oct and March every year as not warm enough t o dry outside but but heating is off so boiler room not good either - use dryer then.

Can't believe i am posting this early about drying clothes!!

that is one thing I love about Aus - rarely is it rainy or cold enough ( where I live) to not be able to get washing dry sometime in a week. Love hanging it out on the old hills hoist - huge rotary clothes line that takes heaps of clothes - fab!!! In summer usually one load is dry ready to come in as the next load is ready to go out.

Found it very weird my first time in the States to not see Clothes lines in gardens!!

Knickless, are you on commission for the washing line site?
You've given it a mention in at least five different threads and I haven't checked the housekeeping board yet!

Katymac · 27/10/2006 16:20

I have reported it to MN Towers

chestnutty · 27/10/2006 16:51

Need to inform the washing line police as well.

Skribble · 28/10/2006 21:47

Nothing beats good old fashioned clothes poles and a rope, rotary driers have everything to bunched up.

knickless · 29/10/2006 06:07

I just found this site of interest and use to me and I just wanted to let others know. If i find anything else that maybe can help people out in the future I be sure to just mention it once or twice so not to many people find out about it.

I love hanging my clothes out but a complete waste of time this time of year so its back to the drier i'm afraid.

tissy · 29/10/2006 06:48

our garden is surrounded by trees, and if we hang washing out, the birds just crap on it . We have some racks inside, but would love to hang outside again!

BTW I have to take issue with Ladyoftheflowers- I specifically choose unscented conditioner, so my clothes don't smell- yuck!

Bozza · 29/10/2006 07:06

I love the summer and line drying clothes. But try to just use the airer as much as possible at this time of year. But not nearly as nice and clutters up the house.

foxtrot · 29/10/2006 07:16

i will peg out when i know the washing will dry, use an airer next to the boiler but also use my drier a lot because i tend to do several loads at a time and don't have space to hang it all. Also lots of non-iron shirts to do, which need to be tumble dried. An d i have just discovered scented conditioner after several years of non-bio, unscented baby friendliness. Am working my way through the ranges to find one i really like.

IdrisTheDragon · 29/10/2006 07:21

My first load of the day is outside on the line .

Skribble · 29/10/2006 20:00

Tissy my last garden was like that surrounded by trees, in a hollow so no sun or breeze, shared garden so full of dog crap and long grass, not a good combo. My present garden is sunny very breezy and all mine, grass is still long though .

Skribble · 29/10/2006 20:03

My washing line

Skribble · 29/10/2006 20:05

BTW knickless, your advertising is a bit obvious now I have seen all you other posts, fine say how good washing lines are but to do the same link on every post .
