I do my bit, we have a compost bit, our glass and tins get collected by council, I take plastic bottles and cardboard to supermarkt collection bins. I find Im in and out of the house all the time ripping things up and washing things out. I know I should do it....and will continue to do so, but advice on what you do to make it all quick and easy woudl be good. We have a bin from the council for papers to...do you leave yours outside...I currently keep ours inside becaue everything will get soggy, does that matter?

we've got a blue box with lid for papers though i wouldn't have thought it mattered if they get wet. i have just spent two weeks sorting plastic and the council was meant to start collecting this week but haven't. find the disorganisation from the council more than annoying!

We've just moved house and have gone from putting everything into black bin bags to having to work out what bin or bag I should be using! We have a green bin for household waste which can take black bin bags, a brown bin for kitchen waste which gets composted, food waste to be wrapped in paper or purchase a special brown paper sack to line the bin, a small green bin for tins and plastic and a green bag for papers and cereal packets. If things aren't sorted properly they won't empty the bin. Needless to say, it's taking a while to get used to doing this

Where do you keep your recycling? The fact that you have to keep going "in and out" sounds like a major pain. Is there any way you could fit a stack of boxes somewhere in your kitchen or nearby like these? .

We have a cupboard in the kichen for collecting all recyclables before they get shoved into the appropriate bag for council collection. Saves trips outside etc and soggy bags (uck!)
Bottles pile up on kitchen worktop until I relent.
Also have 2 bins in each room, one for recyclables oand one for non-recyclables. Then when I "do the bins" on "bin night" I empty into appropriate cupboard/bag. Saves having little pile of stuff in each room that can't be binned or trekking into kitchen everytime you finish with a newspaper etc.

I've thought about using some kind of container or seperate carrier bags to empty out, we have 4 bins around the house as well as the main kitchen bin. DH doesn't help by either he'll happily shove everything to one place or just leave rubbish where it falls!

Sorry no help - ours is a huge chore. Council don't collect anything so I have several large cardboard boxes lined up in an outhouse and I throw cans in one, glass in another etc. Every 3 months or so I fill the car to the brim and drive it to the recycling centre.

But I couldn't possibly throw it in the bin so I guess I'll just have to lump it!

we have a green box for recycling paper & tins which the council colllects

I rang and asked for them to bring me another which I use to keep all plastic bottles, glass, cardboard in

keep them outside

don't find it a chore at all since I quite like flinging glass into the doofer and hearing it smash

I have 3 of the Tickled Pink tote bags from asda on my work top to save me going outside everytime I want to bin something, We have a 3 wheelies for paper, garden waste and normal waste and an annoying plastic box for cans and bottles. We didn't get a lid for this but my neighbour knows someone who knows someone so we got and illicite lid , box is a pain though as it blows about or gets kicked up the street so I don't use it. Recycled box and it is now in the loft used for storage.

I haven't been so good with plastic bottles and cans until I discovered the bottle banks accross the road have a can and plastic bottle bin , rinsing out might be a bit of a pain but now my sink and drainer are always clear (see flylady) it is a bit easier.
