Insulation boards

I've moved into a very old and very cold house and gradually trying to make it more energy efficient. We have changed the radiators and added a load of secondary glazing. We are also wondering about a biomass boiler to get off our oil tank but they're so £££ upfront we would have to take a loan out which would nullify the savings even with the RHI payments.

SO..was beginning to think about adding insulation internally where possible. Have any of you done it? Any tips and was it worth it? Do you only do the external walls? How much did you notice the loss in room size?

TIA

we've drylined one bedroom wall - the room has 3 outside walls, all solid stone. Hefty work and a challenge for himself's excellent DIY skills, but room is warmer and the wall now does not attract condensation. It all goes on the windows but that's easy. Remember it is best to have no pictures or fixings on the dry lining. The other two walls have windows and dry lining those would be too difficult.

room is a reasonable size and difference negligible. In a modern house with tiny bedrooms it would be an issue.

don't use biomass. Get a decent oil boiler, buy when oil price lower (as now) and look into a woodburner as supplement.

Kingspan k38 works but isn't cheap, and makes your room about a foot smaller.

We have some in our kitchen. It is much, much warmer now. Will be putting some up in the dining room too.
