if one uses non-disposable nappies should one use also non-disposable sanitary pads? aren't they as bad?

if not why not? how do you justify it?

You'll probably find they do. Loads of mumsnetters use mooncups or washable sanitary towels.

UselessMum · 01/09/2006 22:53

really?? what's a mooncup? (sorry but i'm a foreigner)

Google "Mooncup" for their official site which will explain it better than me, or search it on here. There've been a lot of threads on the subject. Converted me!

UselessMum · 01/09/2006 23:04

wow!
I cannot believe I never heard of it in my life.
At first it doesn't seem that great but must admit I think it must be once you get the hang of it.
maybe I should try, if nothing else to avoid the 'bollocks I've forgot the tampax again!!!' scenario, which happens religiously every single month!!
thank posey for enlightening me on the subject!

You're welcome!

I use cloth nappies. And I LOVE my mooncup! It's brill! I HATE pads. NEVER used them aside from after birth, as I was a ballet dancer when I first got my period and so pads were a no go.

expatinscotland · 01/09/2006 23:13

It took me three cycles to get the hang of my mooncup. SO glad I stayed with it!

JessaJam · 01/09/2006 23:14

I use reuseable nappies and i have a washable 'sanitary towel' too (just the one, trying it out to see if it worked...it does..!) [smug]

UselessMum · 01/09/2006 23:17

I'll have to give it a go now! it sounds good.
I don't mean to be gross now but must ask is it good at holding it in. I'm a bit scared about spillages, iyswim.

do you use washable when you go out? they cannot be lasting the all day?

expatinscotland · 01/09/2006 23:20

It's fab once you get the hang of it, UM!

JessaJam · 01/09/2006 23:21

I don't, partly because I only have the one! I suspect it would involve carrying a little bag around, inside your 'handbag' in which to store the used towel(s)...like a 'wet nappy bag' ...I am considering a mooncup too.
Hav eto say the washable towel is far more comfortable than the disposables and is really absorbant too.

UselessMum · 01/09/2006 23:27

UM pulls an [incredulous/idiotic face]!!

where have I been all this time? I must try, if only because I feel so left out and backward now.
