Anyone know what August is meant to be like? More heatwave-type weather?

Sincerely hope not

southeastastra · 24/07/2006 18:03

if the previous years are anything to go by, it will soon be over and get hot again for a week in august

flutterbee · 24/07/2006 18:03

I just keep hearing people say "and its going to get hotter"

dinny · 24/07/2006 18:04

a friend told me today it was supposed to be hot throughout August...not sure where she gets he meterological info from though!

I hope so. It is lovely to have the sun out, the children out playing in the paddling pool and garden rather than inside making a mess, and eating outside at night with a glass of chilled wine. Just wish I didn't have to go to work some of the days!

hulababy · 24/07/2006 18:05

Our 5 day forecast however has storms on Thursday and cooler - 24/25 degrees. And cooler but dry on Friday.

handlemecarefully · 24/07/2006 18:05

I keep mine indoors on days like this. They are much likely to be playing out on more temperate 20 - 25/26 degrees days

dinny · 24/07/2006 18:05

me too, Hula, esp as have taken summer off work to take kids to parents' place for 5 weeks

Roll on end of the week in that case

I have lots of days off work too this August, and only have 2.5 days a week anyway.

DD has been outside most of the day, in UV suit, hat and cream with two friends having a fantastic time. They have been in and out of the paddling pool, running about squealing and laughing. Had ice lolly breaks and lunch sat in the garden room out of the sun. Then walk to the park, back for drinks in the shade -then more water play. DD is still out but no round next door with one of the little boys whop was here earlier.

Me and friend have sta in the shade with cold coke, chatting

It is idealic IMO - what children's summer holidays are all about.

Mind you, we are probably a little cooler than othe rplaces. Further north in Sheffield to start with and as we are very high up over here we get a nice gentle warm breeze as well.

Someone told me today it's going to stay hot throughout August (how they know this, i have no idea!). Fine by me!

I agree with hula. It is lovely. Yesterday a friend and I took our kids to a local country park in the morning for a couple of hours and just sat on a picnic bench while they were running around under the trees playing. Then after tea DH, DS and DD had a lengthy water pistol fight (2yo DD can't squirt the water pistols but has discovered that she can manage the trigger on the water spray bottle I use for ironing sometimes so was armed with this). And I sat and spectated with a chilled glass of rose...

Spagblog · 25/07/2006 09:06

I love it.
I think that we would be going slowly potty by now if we hadn't been able to chuck the kids out into the garden to play.

I loathe this weather! Baby ds got really onerheated, off his feeds and ended up the emergency doc. We are all fair so can't go out in the sun. And the bloody farmer has planted rapeseed so with our windows open the house smells like rotting sewage!

And I look crap in summer clothes! Roll on Autumn (which should be lovely this year owing to water-stressed trees).
