cappucino..i have a similar thing with friends..maybe twice a year we meet and swap all kinds of things,
mostly clothes, shoes bags etc, but also things like smoothie makers (why did i buy one when a blender does the job!?), c.d's, smal furniture..anything really!
it's amazing to see someone pounce ion and love something thats been in your wardrobe for years..and similarly great to get the 'shopping buzz' without spending a penny.

i love freecycle too..we mainly offer as we don't have a car to 'recieve' stuff but have gladly given lots of unwanted things, in london we get 300 + posts a day sometimes..it's the best!

eBay is green IMO, if the stuff is used. I look on there first if we need to buy something. Other than that:

breastfeeding is free and very green.

Using libraries and toy libraries instead of buying new stuff.

Giving presents of your time or something home made instead of buying stuff.

Growing your own herbs / fruit / veg.

Cooking from scratch using local produce, not air freighted stuff and over-packaged ready meals.

Share a bath with a friend :)

spacedonkey I'v eheard it's best to grow tomatos in hanging baskets! Good if no garden.

Make your own washable baby wipes from cut-up old clothing. Less gunk on your baby's bum, less packaging, less waste, etc.

Doing more washing isn't actually that environmentally friendly either, it uses loads of energy and you have to remember all that washing powder you're using that goes into the water.

Rhubarb - I do loads of washing but I have to.

Rhubarb · 27/05/2006 19:02

We don't have a washing machine - how environmentally friendly is that then! Nerr!
