I bought an Earth Friendly Products carpet shampoo a while back but haven't used it yet as we don't have a carpet shampooer any more. I was going to hire one before my youngest started crawling but haven't got around to it yet. You're brave having a cream carpet and children!! Try www.greenbrands.co.uk

Was looking for a thread on this subject as we are planning to move in about 4-5 months so will get carpets cleaned properly then but in meantime wondered whether anyone else had any suggestions for cleaning carpets - mine too are wool and cream (I know, I was pregnant when we got them fitted and the carpet man laughed at us but oh no, we knew best!!!!)

I have a vax steam cleaner which cleans carpets without any chemicals at all, just steam. No idea if it's suitable for wool though.

Thanks Yaffle. Is it good? Was it v expensive? What other stuff can you clean with it? I've always fancied the sound of a steam cleaner. In a small 2 bed flat with no storage though so would need to be sooper-dooper to justify space, planning on moving to bigger place in cheaper area so room for ds's expanding belongings!

Sorry, only just seen this.

I started off with a 'penguin' t'was cheap but pants, had to be constantly pumped by hand and no continuous steam.

I've just got a Vax which cost £70 but with 2 small children and new carpets I figured it was worth the expense. It's fab and I wouldn't be without it now. I clean the kitchen floors with it, bathroom tiles, sofa and curtains. Not tried it on the windows yet. There are a few design flaws such as you can't see the level of the remaining water in the tank so have to guess when it's run out but other than that I'd recommend it to anyone.
