Electric Cars

Hola,

I'm thinking about buying an electric vehicle. I'm 'A Mum on the Run' type and trying to become more green.

What concerns do people have about electric cars??

Range is still a problem, as battery technology is still not great, and charging stations are not as prolific as they could be. There are a reasonable number of charge points in London, but you might as well use public transport there. What would you do if you needed to get to school but were short on charge? Charging is for the patient, not really busy mums.
Price is a factor, electric cars are still quite pricey.
You'd probably need a different mode of transport to travel intercity too, unless you gamble with distances between charge points.

V Hmm about their 'greenness' anyway. I believe that the batteries use some nasty elements in production, often extracted in developing countries in ways harmful to the environment and then have to be transported halfway around the world. So they have a massive carbon footprint in production and the electricity used to power them has to come from somewhere (mostly fossil fuel burning power stations) so you are just switching to a different form of pollution. SO I would just go for a small conventional car with most efficient MPG. (and petrol not diesel if you are doing low mileage or lots of short runs).
