Hi, my DD (4years old) and I are both vegan and I was wondering if any there are many other vegans on here.
If so then any tips in how to fill up my hungry kid?
Also good vegan cheese recipes as i can't get vegan cheese in Taiwan (where we live but am on holiday in the UK at the moment!).
Thanks!

Tips? Here's one:
don't make DD be a vegan. IMO it is mental (or irresponsible). And then maybe you won't have any problems "filling her up". Kids need a balanced diet to grow healthy and I don't believe a vegan diet is healthy one for adults let alone kids.
Vegan cheese? Seriously? Why don't you enjoy the real thing?

Hi englishgirl - I'm not a vegan, but I just wanted you to get a more friendly response than ElsieR's.

There's definitely a vegan chat thread somewhere, perhaps in food? Will see if I can find it and link to it.

Ah, just looked and saw you found it already :)

Hi I make a lot of cous cous with sun dried tomatoes and drizzle the oil over the rest of the vegetables. My family love vegan pesto vegetable pasta and I make home made bread as a filler. If you substitute butter for PUre spread you can make all manner of things. Up the carbs and beans etc. Soya milkshakes are great as is soya custard and soya desserts. I bake with a lot of nuts and use carob powder and prunes to fill a pie case. There are lots of recipes online. Just make sure that you include flax seeds and a vitaminB12 supplement. I am sure you know about curries and stew but how about an apple crumble? Just use pure spread instead of butter and soya custard to top. Beans on toast is always a good quick filler, just use a good multi grain flour for the bread to up the nutrients! I often make use of left over curry by making pasties with what is left. They can be frozen or packed for a snack on the run. For treats health food stores are great- I often get carob nuts/ raisins. Another thought is to make your own flap jacks. Lastly the Co-op sell vegan biscuits such as digestives/ rich tea. HTH

The Vegfamily site has lots of useful information about vegan nutrition for small children, as does the Vegetarian Resource Group. (Maybe ElsieR could have a look there before coming out with uninformed knee-jerk guff. Hmm) And have a look at some of the recipes here, too - lots of good suggestions!

No recipes for vegan cheese recipes that would give you something like a block of cheddar from the supermarket, alas, but nutritional yeast (can you get that in Taiwan?) is great for adding a cheesy flavour to white sauces :)
