wheelie bin fiasco

My wheelie bin was stolen in the early hours of Saturday morning. This happened after I reported to the police drunken youths smashing the front window of the property opposite.
I phoned the council first thing Monday 24 January to request a bin and I was shocked to hear that it would take 10 working days for a new wheelie bin. I explained that I have two small children therefore have many nappies and other household rubbish but this did not make a difference. When I asked what to do with my rubbish I was told to leave it outside in plastic bags. As you are probably aware we have a high fox, mice and rat population in our area. Leaving rubbish out will only encourage this and endanger the health of my young family.
Is it unreasonable to want a new wheelie bin in a day or two?

Did they ask you to pay for the replacement, too? You have to pay for replacement wheelie bins around here.

In the old days we used to have our own bins (metal ones, yeah?) to keep the vermin out. You could consider yourself lucky to have been saved the cost of that until now. I don't know about unreasonable, but if you want more responses (though they may not be nice or what you want to hear), post in the AIBU topic.

YANBU (although I appreciate this is not an AIBU!), but sadly this is par for the course round here too - and we have to pay for replacements

if my bin gets stolen i have to pay for the privelidge of having another one!

(most of the bins in my road are VERY clearly and obviously marked woth the house number and road to which they belong!)

When we lose a bin or recyclimg box, they normally deliver a new one when the van next comes round.

You are allowed to put nappies in a wheelie bin? we would get fined for doing that and must dispose of nappies in a bio bag which is collected seperately then incinerated
