So you want your child to vegan? Or?

Shouldbedoing · 01/02/2025 15:35

Could you agree a compromise where he eats meat outside the home?
Obviously school meals could be potentially lower quality meat as with lower welfare standards and he would need to understand his allergies.
Has he been stonewalling you with a hunger strike?
It must be hard for you.

So you've raised your son vegan and now, aged 10, he is insisting on eating bacon and you're going to separate you cooking utensils into vegan and non-vegan. And although you're upset about his decision you respect it. Sounds good to me, although I'm sorry it leaves you feeling uncomfortable and upset,

MumChp · 01/02/2025 15:37

I would offer a selection of meat, bread, fruit and vegetables.

Of course he can't live on bacon, but there are still plenty of foods to choose from (even if dairy, fish and eggs are not possible).

Is he actually allergic to dairy and eggs or is it that you don't want to give them to him?

Shouldbedoing · 01/02/2025 15:39

I think the lad needs to learn how to cook, going forward.

Yes you're handling it well OP

If he has been brought up vegan, how do you know that he has an allergy to them?

Rocknrollstar · 01/02/2025 16:06

When we became a vegetarian household we told the DC they could eat meat and fish when they were at friends or in a restaurant. We took DGD on holiday and she is a carnivore. She asked and we told her in advance that in the cottage we would be vegetarian but she could order what she liked when we were out and about. What’s the problem?

BobbyBiscuits · 01/02/2025 16:07

He just has to be allowed to eat what he can if he's got selective eating issues.
Ideally you could raise your kids vegan or vegetarian if that's you're own diet, but not if it means they physically won't eat anything!

ScribblingPixie · 12/03/2025 14:24

Have his allergies been diagnosed by doctors, OP?

mathanxiety · 12/03/2025 14:42

That's a lot of allergies, OP.
Have they all been diagnosed, and if so, by whom and using what methods?

How long have you been vegan?
