Time scale for LPA at the moment?

The LPA I applied for has been received, has anyone sent one in recently to give me an idea how long til it’s approved? Assuming all goes well, of course.

We had a couple of complications applying due to stroppy family members and a somewhat wayward donor. I’d love it to come through as we’re unpicking lots of mistakes which would be much easier with PoA!

Going back a few years, but I think you need to allow about 3 months, as they'll write to all the people named (proposed attorneys and any other interested parties listed) and give them several weeks to object if they want to, before approving it. I'm not sure what would happen in your case if any of those 'stroppy family members' object.

My parents applied for theirs just before Xmas 2023, and dad died the following march just before the completed paperwork came back - a waste of money for him, but incredibly grateful that I then had mums in place to be able to deal with all her affairs.

Thank you. I think it’s changed, as the form had ‘people to inform’ pages that we printed out and sent to them.
I was hoping it might be a bit quicker, just because it would be nice to be able to get on with some stuff.

When it comes through, I’ll update here so there’s an idea for whoever comes wondering next!

Yes, our form had a 'people to inform' section and (if we'd put any one in there) the OPG then write to all those people, and also those named as attorneys, to ask if they want to object, and give them a few weeks to do so, which is why it takes so long.

Oh wow! Thanks. I hadn’t realised. I wonder why we even needed to do it then 😅

Hi, I do these as part of my job. They are on average, taking around 2 months to come back after being sent. All government departments are very slow these days; don’t even get me started on the Land Registry!

Looking at the website, if you submit it online (as my parents did via a solicitor) then the OPG do all the contacting for you, whereas if you did a paper one then they expect you to send off the form to notify people yourself ?

The website says it takes 8-10 weeks to process - contrary to the previous poster, I don't think this is necessarily because the offices are slow and understaffed but because these windows to allow people time to object are built into the process.

Yes, we filled everything in online, then had to print it and get everything signed in the correct order, plus post the notices. They have 3 weeks to object. So the very earliest possible would be then, I suppose.
