Does anyone else need to get help at home for an aging mum?
My dad has just passed away and my mum is 77 and starting to show signs of forgetfulness. I’m thinking a lot about how much time we all spend cleaning, washing, shopping and all the little jobs that we do and feel these little things are becoming an issue for family members when it comes to visiting with her. It now feels like a task instead of the time they used to love with her and how reluctant they are to go see their nanny etc and would hate for them to reflect and think how bad that was but there isnt enough time in the day for everyone.
Im thinking of getting some outside help in but am unsure of where to start. What do people look for when looking for this kind of thing?
Has anyone ever got outside help?
And if you did, what helped you feel comfortable enough to go ahead with it? or have you only trusted someone through word of mouth?
Where do you go? And what do you look for to feel reassured?

I guess it depends what help she needs. If it's just a cleaner and gardener then they are easy enough to find, if it's more help with personal care then you may need to go through a care agency.
Is your mum in agreement that she needs help?
Can she pay for care?
If she has difficulties with personal care and has done for at least six months then she may qualify for Attendance Allowance which can help towards care costs.
Places like Age Uk are trustworthy and provide domiciliary care or home help.
