If you have a relative who has been diagnosed with mixed dementia (Alzheimer’s and vascular) and Parkinson’s disease, how long did they live post symptom onset, and post diagnosis? And what age were they at symptom onset and diagnosis? Thank you

Stepfather diagnosed with Parkinsons aged 70. Then with Lewy Body dementia at 80, died when he was 83. He deteriorated massively in his last 3 years and spent the final 2 years in a care home.

Very similar to @Soontobe60 - DF diagnosed with Parkinson’s at 71, had a ‘good’ first 3-4 years then started to struggle with mobility, had sticks, then a walker. Mind started to deteriorate around this time too.

Had a fall at home aged 76 and broke his hip. Spent 8 weeks in hospital, massively went downhill cognitively, wasn’t mobile at all now as muscles all deteriorated and little strength - discharged to a nursing home (despite DM’s protests that she could look after him!).

Stayed there 3 years, didn’t recognise us, talked about things from the past like they were yesterday, but couldn’t remember anything from half an hour beforehand. Passed away from an infection very quickly - 5 days from becoming ill to passing just before he was 80.

Exactly the same timescales in my family
