Hi

Just after advice and recommendations please.

DM lives alone minimum of one hour from me. She had a nasty tumble before Christmas and has lost confidence in herself being alone incase she is unwell.

I have been looking at the devices that she can press and speak to someone.

There are so many to choose from though. Has anyone got any recommendations or companies to avoid

Thankyou 😊

My cheap fall alert option is a smart watch - I have it set up to call a relative if I fall and it does so automatically.

That option may be sufficient if she is not very elderly or very wobbly.

I could not bring myself to spend money on a call service as an elderly relative spends £££ per month and all they seem to do is call the relative.

I went with one from our local council for my dad and my FIL. Two separate councils
Both have been great.

Perth. You put your own key safe in and they came and sorted out FIL when he fell.

They had the most amazing lifting equipment to get people up from the floor. Fairly quick response time when we had it. They used to phone my husband and he would check the cameras in his dad's house to see if it was a false alarm initially then the alarm people would go in as we lived an hour away.

Newcastle: they provide the key safe and don't give you the code as they don't want people using it and not putting the keys back.

They responded to the calls went in and made sure all was ok. Dad has digital voice service now and alarm works fine.

Both cost about £7 a week.

Many thanks

Mum already has a keysafe answer another neighbour has a set of keys too.

I'll look at her local council and see if they recommend anyone.

My DM has a CPR Guardian watch, we have the lowest package which costs about £150 a year. I can use it to check heart rate etc and also to call her on without worrying about her rushing to the phone.

We used the one sold by Age UK - the team that responds seem really helpful and supportive.

My dad has Lifeline through the local council. They’ve been brilliant. He wears a pendant round his neck and has had a couple of falls. They don’t do first aid but they checked him over for bumps and breaks and when it was safe, they slid an inflatable riser cushion under him and got him back on his feet. They were there in under 15 minutes - brilliant service. I think he pays £15 a month for it.

On the second occasion, he’d cut his head and needed stitches. They rang me and then stayed with him (an hour!) until I could get there and take him to A&E.

I would go through the Council too.

My DM has a council one. They are very quick to respond as she sometimes presses it accidentally and they call immediately. If she didn't respond they would phone the people on her list.
