Revoke power of attorney? Or losing capacity?

I have power of attorney for someone I care for. They are accusing me of trying to get them locked up (in a physio rehab unit). Of trying to get them declared insane when I suggested they might be coming down with an infection as they are only verbally aggressive like this when starting with one. They want to discharge themselves convinced that they can self transfer despite not having done it since October. I've spoken to staff who are going to investigate and I'll be going to see them when visiting starts but right now I just feel like the best way to go is to revoke the POA. I've spent years fighting for them to live independently but safely and I've just had enough. I'm hurt and upset although objectively I know I'm the only person they can take it out on. (Estranged from siblings and only one friend). I don't even know what advice I'm asking for.

Hi @BlackCatGoesHome totally understand your post. Could you ask for a capacity assessment? I appreciate capacity relates to the health and welfare POA so if they are deemed to not have capacity you may be able to invoke the POA. Frustratingly I am in a similar situation whereby the person I hold POA for makes terrible life choices but will not listen to me trying to help them. They are deemed to have capacity so we as a family just have to deal with the fallout….well I have stepped away for my own sanity.

Perhaps Social Services could point you in the right direction but I also understand why you would want to revoke your involvement with the POA. It may well then force the crisis needed to move things forward. Do vent on here - you may not get answers but you will get support.

Get in touch with Office of the public guardian.
You can revoke your POA that way.
Look on line at Gov.UK too for advice about the process.
