RESPECT forms & DNR

DM has told me she does not want to be resuscitated.

DF did a RESPECT form when he was in hospital about 2 years ago, which basically said the same thing.

How do I get DM's wishes formalised?

They are 90 & 86 & not in great health, but still living at home.

Grateful for any advice. Thanks.

Speak to her GP and ask for an appointment for it be discussed and they will do it for you

GP can do it. It’s a very sensible decision.

Make sure the original is kept in a really obvious place that you all know about. My friend couldn’t find her father’s form when he suddenly had a cardiac arrest, so (understandably) the paramedics resuscitated him, transported him to hospital and he died a few hours later. So traumatic for them all.

GP can sort it along with an advanced decision. This details the steps they wish to take for the end of their lives. Its a legal document too so can't be overruled.

Thank you everyone

I think the Respect forms now have to be renewed every year but I could be wrong. Contacting their GP and adking if someone can fill the form in with them though sounds like good advice.
