"Adapted" clothing

My dad struggles with his hands and can't do buttons on trousers any more, which is somewhat limiting if he's out or home alone. Can anyone recommend anywhere that does "adaptive clothing" for adults that do trousers without buttons that aren't trackies.

Primark did have some, cargo trousers and jeans from what I can see.

Octavia64 · 04/12/2025 11:45

Primark are the only ones I know of.

however there are plenty of styles of trouser that are less formal and do not have buttons available.

my dad had a stoma so needed baggy at the waist and mostly had tracksuit trousers, cords and similar.

M&S had pull on trousers last week that looked much smarter than joggers, might be worth checking out.

ChronicallyConfusedOnEarth · 04/12/2025 11:47

I think Asda might have had a range. I follow someone on tik tok who was showing some of the clothes off, they had like removable sections for people who have feeding tubes or pipes in the arm, I’m really sorry, I have horrible meno brain fog today and struggling to recall the right word for the pipes in the arm thing. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’ll go see if I can find a link.

oh i'd never have thought to look in Primark! Will check the others too, thanks! It's to know what to search for, I think it was Asda that I found but they were all trackies. Cords would be ok too, I don't think I've seen him in a pair of jeans.

Tommy hilfiger have an 'adaptive' range that's quite good

Beautyfadesdumbisforever · 04/12/2025 14:14

My father had the same problem. He found zip pullers helped they come in all sorts of sizes and colours.

MiddleAgedDread · 04/12/2025 14:25

It’s the buttons he’s can’t do, zips are ok on trousers but he struggles to connect the two bits to start them off on things like coats. Really he should just live in a tracksuits but seemingly he has more sense of style ;)

A button aid would be useful for him. On coats, the zip can be replaced with a mag zip which pulls itself together. The https://www.activehands.com/shop/ active hands shop have these and lots of other useful gadgets- I only have one working hand and have lots from them

The Gripping Aid Shop | Active Hands | Hand Mobility Aids

Active Hands Shop for disability products. gripping aids and hand function gadgets. Take a look and see how you can be more independent.

Uniqlo have quite a few styles of pull on trousers that aren’t trackies

ScaryM0nster · 12/12/2025 10:15

M&S have quite a few things that would fit what you’re looking for but won’t be called adaptive.

Not everyone in the target market wants that label. Lands End also worth a look.

MiddleAgedDread · 12/12/2025 16:50

Thanks, I’ll have a look in M&S and Uniqlo, I gave up with both their websites!

Asda have a new range of adaptive clothes they have just released.

TheSunRisesInTheEast · 26/12/2025 13:52

I miss BHS for this sort of thing. Elasticated waist chinos/cords/jeans, High Street shops are very few and far between nowadays 😕. Good luck with your search 🙂

MiddleAgedDread · 26/12/2025 14:28

I found the Primark range but nothing suitable. Uniqlo had cords that seemed promising but the quality was awful. There’s a good pair in M&S but they didn’t have his size so going to order online now I’ve checked his normal trouser size! Thanks all 🤗

My husband can’t do buttons, we just buy him standard jeans, I remove the button and either add a magnet or velcro, I then put the button on so it looks like it has been used to so the jeans up.
