I have an elderly relative who has a broken TV aerial. They live in a block of flats with a shared aerial & we have been told it could be months until it is fixed as quotes & scaffolding are needed. They have a Fire stick but struggle to use this & are becoming very frustrated phoning me in tears as they are sitting in silence or can't get the news on! They live on their own & the tv is the only company they have. I've brought them up to my house during the day to watch tv when I'm at work but I don't have space for them to stay until the tv is mended. I've written down directions but they struggle to follow this. They have anxiety & depression & can get worked up very quickly!
We have tried 2 portable aerials but haven't been able to get a watchable picture. They need something where the push a button & the channel they want comes on like a traditional tv remote. Can anyone suggest a solution?

Netflix. The basic service is fine. Don't find the adverts too intrusive. They won't have access to the soaps and news. Could they upgrade to a smart tv?

It's the regional news they miss. I will suggest a Smart TV. Would Sky tv work by them with pressing 101 to watch BBC 1 rather than having to watch via an app? I haven't had Sky in years.

Could you try an old style indoor aerial that sits on the tv. They are very inexpensive. It worked for us when we had an issue. Many people struggle to learn tech set ups and must be confusing if you are used to pressing 1 for BBC1, 2 for BBC2 and 3 for ITV!

We've tried 2 indoor aerials with the signal boosters & we can't get a good picture. It keeps freezing & showing interference. I know the aerials work as I use them at my home.

Could they have sky in a flat, with a dish, Sky Q would be best but pricey of course. We have no functioning aerial as the wire snapped and watch everything through SkyQ. If they have to go the app route I think iPlayer app only shows London local news rather than regional, probably worth checking if they had to go that route. Maybe check out ITVx app for local news.
