Hi all, my PIL are going through a rough period with their health.

MIL is a keen cook but is not well enough to do this very much any more. FIL rarely cooks. They each have small appetites and prefer mostly traditional British food.
They are currently relying on frozen ready meals, which IMO aren't giving them sufficient calories. They both have Fortisips prescribed, but they're struggling with them too.

I love a bit of batch cooking and would like to prepare some meals for them to freeze/chill so they can consume at their leisure.

However I'm having a bit of a mind block at what I can batch cook for them that meets the brief of:

a) traditional (ish)
b) as high calorie as possible, within reason
c) fairly easily transported

Think I am just feeling a bit overwhelmed with the situation (lots of hospital visits, stress etc) - I would really appreciate any pointers on nice meals to batch cook for them.

Thank you Mumsnet!

I’m doing similar as stepdad recovering from oesophageal cancer. 1 tablespoon olive oil has 120 calories so add as much of a mild flavour one as you can when cooking anything.
My go to has been cauliflower cheese soup - can add half a big block of cheese that melts in before blending, and cream too.
A puff pastry pillow pie with eg broccoli and cheese filling can be cut into portions and frozen.

Agree with it being hard to persuade them to eat little more often rather than just main meals. Trying to get them to have teatime cake and still have proper dinner is helping.

When my elderly relative stopped being able to cook her own meals I found that calories weren't the problem. She had reduced to eating nothing but instant porridge with honey, tinned rice pudding with jam, and bread with jam. Plus biscuits. Her muscles were wasting away because she had virtually no protein.

As a PP suggested, Wiltshire Farm Foods mini meals are ideal in this situation.
