Elderly parents

LPA to fund care home

My elderly mother is now in a care home and LPA was sought to finance this necessary move by DB.
How do I ensure that financially everything is above board...or even, can I? Sadly, recent events (expensive purchase) have made me question the intentions and I think that her full savings pot may not be going on fees.
I agreed to the LPA assuming I could trust DB but I'm concerned now.
So as not to drip feed...mother is a narc and has treated us terribly, been mean her whole life so has a sizeable amount of savings. There will be no inheritance but DB is already helping himself to what he thinks he deserves.

At what point did your DM apply for LPA?

MrsFunnyFanny · 26/09/2025 07:26

You can report your concerns about an attorney via the gov.uk website, and the finances would be investigated fully.

Thanks for the guidance to the website, it's a big step to take and will explode the family so it needs careful consideration. It's already in tatters anyway after some discoveries.

(D)M's application for LPA has just been approved and registered.

Just report it to the OPG. Their first step will be to ask for bank statements. Any irregular payments will be interrogated.

Thanks for extra info as I wasn't sure how carefully the OPG would examine things.
I suspect that money will have already been spirited away for a vaguely plausible reason but I know that there is more to come potentially. Or go!
