I'm not in that neck of the woods I'm afraid, but I found this website super helpful with identifying good care homes near me

good luck

You need to find the highest rated ones on the CQC list, visit them at least twice. I was advised to try to visit over a mealtime as you get a good idea of how residents are treated when in a group. Also you can see what the food is like. Its very subjective - what suits my family member might not suit yours which is why you need to visit. Plus the best ones will likely have the longest waiting list (in my experience) and nothing happens quickly! Good luck (it's quite a stressful process!)

We viewed all the local to Holt care homes. We chose to use Heath Lodge, for around a year. Spent lots of time there. Mum enjoyed the meals. The table is always set beautifully too. Mum particularly loved the glass of wine at mealtimes. They actually invite non residents who live alone to join them for free for a Sunday lunch.
The decor is akin to a really good hotel. Mums ensuite room had a garden outside her patio door which she planted up. The care home actually won a garden award this year too.
we were all really happy with her care which is very important. I highly recommend it.
good luck

Self funded or council funded? Dementia or physical frailty only?

Self funded, just physical frailty - late 80s now and have had all manor of physical illnesses. But full mental capacity.

You’re welcome. Our mum was self funded too. 86 mobile but frail after a fall. It was such a relief to know she had great care. Lots of people her own age to talk to and lots to do if and when she wanted to.
Take a look at a few different CH to see what suits your requirements like we did.
a great recommendation helps but it must feel right to you all too.

I saw your thread a few days ago. I just spoke to a friend who lives in NN and had to find a care home recently for a grandparent. She said Dorrington House in Wells is good and Buckingham Lodge in Watton is outstanding.

Thank you @Davros 🙏
