Travel insurance for over 80's

My parents (DF 82 and DM 80) have always been avid travellers. They have been all over the world and have over the past 15 years been on dozens of cruises. They love it.

They are both very young at heart and both mentally astute but have a few niggly physical things.

My dad has recently had a knee reassignment- which is surgery to his knee replacement. It all went well but there have been some complications with swelling/hotness which the consultant believes to be a minor bleed inside (no infection).

The consultant has told him he is now free to travel so my mum has been trying to get travel insurance. They know that it's going to be costly - they have the money so that's not a problem.

She has rung a couple of places this morning and both have said they won't insure them. She's now nearly in tears, very emotional and is just giving in saying that's it - they have can't travel anymore.

Im amazed at her attitude as only a few weeks ago she was looking at various cruises and making plans ahead of the hospital appointment.

Ive sent her links to Staysure and Just Travel Cover. Is there anyone else who will do insurance for over 80's still under a consultant. Any recommendations would be great.
Thanks

Saga?

I more or less sure that my mum got travel insurance with these people last summer. She's 84 with every health condition available to humankind and yeah, when she came to visit me in France she inevitably had to go to the doctors, messed up her prescriptions and claimed.

They paid out.

Also, sorry if I'm stating the obvious but I assume that they have NHS EHIC/GHIC.

All the best and good luck!

All insurances will exclude pre existing conditions and anything that occurs from it. Staysure will insure me but with the exclusions. Realistically they can still go away if hey know they can afford repatriation costs if they need it they will have emergency healthcare using the EHIC. Life is too short to be grounded

Let me know how they get on. Thinking back now, I think it was actually her EHIC/GHIC card that paid out this last time but the time before when she visited when she was in her mid seventies she fell over and broke her wrist on the first evening here which had to be operated on and a plate put in and I know very well that it was Age UK that paid out that time because I managed the claim.

Out of curiosity how much are repatriation costs? This would be off a cruise ship in European countries.

Just researched and it's about £45k rising to £100k if the medical symptoms are complicated.

All Clear looks good. I see that they have specific cruise insurance. It's not something I'd ever really thought of until now because nobody closer than friends of friends have ever been on one but they do seem quite a special case to insure.

My 84 year mum got her travel insurance through Saga. She was declined by a couple of these other specialist travel insurance providers first.
