Sheltered accomodation which meets care needs and takes pets

My parents are in their 80s. Mum has care needs due to neurological condition, Dad is in good health. They have a cat. The house they are in requires too much maintenance and I am investigating their options. Is there a type of sheltered accomodation for a couple which also meets care needs and allows a cat!

My mum lives in sheltered accommodation run by Regenda which I believe only operates in the North West. You can have a cat or a dog and couples live together fine. I don't know what part of the country you live in but please don't worry.

Here's a link to Regenda but I'm sure similar schemes exist wherever you are in the UK:

It's a worry, isn't it? All the best x

A lot of flats aimed at older residents will allow pets. Often they will let you bring an existing pet (within certain criteria e.g not a large dog) but not get a new one.

Most assisted living properties allow you to bring an existing pet, but they don’t provide care. However carers can come in, I have a relative who has this setup, the carers come a few times a day.

Some of The Spires homes allow pets. We have a lovely one in our village (South East) which allow cats and dogs.

Thank you for taking the time to reply I will have a look at all these suggestions.

Anchor Trust which has schemes pretty well everywhere and allows pets.

Extra Care retirement villages would also be suitable depending on location. My parents are in a similar situation and have carers coming in to see to mum’s needs. https://www.extracare.org.uk/

A relative manages a housing association extra care sheltered housing scheme in London. Small self-contained flats with care on-site (to qualify, you need to require x hours of care per week) and yes pets are allowed, subject to agreement and conditions. Most tenants are placed by the council, but there are direct applications as well I think.

Extra care housing can be brilliant, some of it is super fancy and some much more simple, look at the council website. It includes more care than sheltered or warden housing.
