Can creaking gates hang long?

My DF is 66 this year, had his second heart attack last year, his first about 8 years prior, before that he had a mini stroke, he smoked for about 30 years, a lot, and despite not being fat, the BMI would say he is, plus he has a bit of a gut on him and a not particularly healthy diet.

I looked at him the other day and realised he’s looking more elderly now, which made me feel a bit sad, and I worry given all the health issues he’s had (he takes a load of medication every day such as blood thinner and statins etc), have I got long left with him? I was hoping someone could tell me that sometimes it is true as the saying goes??

Sadly, I would say he won’t make old bones with everything in the past and currently. BUT you just don’t know, op. He might go on for years.

I would also say, respectfully, that 65 is not “elderly”…

Friends father had a number of heart attacks. Died at 94.

66 is really not elderly!! Most people of that age look really young and sprightly. Treasure your dad while you've got him; mine died at 83 and I cry every day because I miss him 😢

Sorry I don’t mean he’s elderly, just he’s looking more elderly now than he used to.
I really hope he can defy the odds, I will be totally devastated when he’s gone. He’s such a wonderful man.

He’s not ‘old’ or ‘elderly’ however, realistically he is unlikely to live into a healthy old age. But in answer to your question, the gate can creak for a long while

So, kindly, often people look older when there are underlying circulatory conditions. Has he been for a check up recently? It may be he needs his meds tweaking or further investigations. Given his history, I would be pushing for him to go for a check up and speak maybe to the GP to say you have noticed a decline.
