How to open heavy door after stroke

First time on this board, but I don’t think it will be my last. My parent has just had a stroke. It’s the second one, but the first to affect arm strength. I know there will be a lot of things to sort out for them to go home, but their flat is fairly suitable being ground floor with a walk in shower etc.

However their front door is very heavy / tightly sprung to comply with fire regs. It opens inward as you would expect, and I struggle to pull it open and hold it open with just one arm. Has anyone come across this issue before please? The management committee is very hot on fire regs.

Thanks

The Equality Act specifies that housing must be accessible to those with disabilities, so that gives you backup when arguing for changes.

I think you'd still need a self closing door for fire regs, but could you get an electrically assisted opening one (like in shops)?

Ah yes! I hadn’t thought of that but I know what you mean. Thank you!
