Elderly parents

Short uk holiday insurance for 89 year old mum

My sisters and I are taking our elderly mum away for 4 nights - about an hour away from her home. Holiday home is set up for disabled and very expensive but necessary. Mum has paid the hire charge. Have been looking into travel insurance for her in case we have to cancel at the last minute due to illness. Holiday company will not reimburse in such an instance. Quotes are over £100 for 4 nights! Can anyone recommend where to look for a cheaper option please?

I'm really sorry but I think that's quite cheap!

I'd not bother, and try to give it away/sell for part of the money on FB or something.

I think that’s quite cheap as well.

Safa and Staysure were the first two companies I thought of. However, this article may help.

How long is it to the holiday? How likely are you to have to cancel? What is the holiday companies cancelation terms? I think I would try to weigh up if you actually need the insurance but for insuring against an 89 year old not being able to make the trip I don't think the quote sounds too bad.

I think that is incredibly cheap.

The Post Office had some quite low-priced UK Travel policies when I was looking for myself a couple of years ago. But of course I don't know what health conditions your mum has that might affect the price. Or Co-op? I don't know what they have.

Like others, I don't think that is unreasonable.
You have to think about how likely it is you would have to cancel.
Even you think it is likely, or wouldn't be looking in to it.
Statistically, 89 year olds are more likely to be taken ill (or worse) than people who are decades younger. That's before you consider the fact you are going somewhere "set up for disabled ..... {which is} necessary"
Insurance quotes are based on statistics, and the odds of how likely it is to happen.

Sounds very reasonable to me if you really want to insure it.

Insurance cost is based on the likelihood of cancellation and seeing as you think it’s a possibility then I’d pay for it but make sure you’ve declared all of her medical conditions.

Also, make sure many travel insurers don't cover uk breaks.

How much is the cost of the four nights.

For a hundred pounds, Id just pay it

You'll be kicking yourself if you don't pay it and then you have to cancel

Thanks everyone for your excellent advice. X
