Compression sock agony. Help please?

My elderly mum has had compression bandages on a leg wound for a few months. Wound has now healed, and the district nurse has put compression socks on. However, it’s proving impossible for her, my sisters or myself to get them on and off in between DN visits. Very painful and we are frightened that we might open the wound again. My neighbour has shown me these - but can’t remember where she bought them.
Does anyone have any idea where to get them to try please?

The GP surgery can prescribe aids to help with putting them on, but you can buy them on eBay sometimes. You could also contact a stocking company directly (Activa do an actiglide applicator) but they a quite expensive.

We found moisturising mum's legs immediately before puuting them.on made a massive difference. At discharge, hospital showed us a technique with a plastic bag (stocking wrapper) over the foot which is hard to explain but made putting them on so much easier.

However, no wound on her leg so appreciate that complicates things further.

We used to put a plastic bag over the foot so the sock could slide on. Whatever you do don't forget to slide out the plastic bag off the foot via the toe hole.

Yes to the plastic bag technique.
Good luck OP.

I reverse searched your image and although that particular item came up as unavailable on Amazon this was suggested instead..
The description is sock aid .

When you say painful do you mean because of th wound, or because the stocking is too tight?

I had my compression stockings taken off in hospital after a procedure as they were so painful they were causing bruising to my legs, however I didnt have a wound and my legs were fat at the time. They shouldnt be so tight they hurt

There’s a technique that nurse is using Hospital to get them on with a plastic bag. You might be able to Google it.

I'm a carer and I was taught to turn inside out and push the toe part in a few inches, then put the toes in that recess and roll the sock over the foot and leg.

I wish I could suggest something.
Im supposed to wear a support garment that covers the whole of one leg and my abdomen, so like a paid of tights with only one leg.
The arthritis in my hands is too bad for me to get it on, my husband has tried and can't do it.
I've had to cut my carers hours to one hour twice per week just to shower and wash my hair so she doesn't get time.
Im sorry to hijack your thread op

Compression socks shouldnt hurt..if they do, they are either too small or there is a problem with the leg that should be checked by someone medical

I wear three compression stockings every day. I use a frame to get them on. At first I thought I would never manage it but I do it routinely now. I'm not sure how it would work with this being used by someone else to help them on but it might help. Mine is provided by the NHS via a Lymphodoema physiotherapist
