Pseudo Dementia? Does anyone have any experience?

I've just got my Dads care plan and it notes clinical depression/pseudo dementia. I've never heard of it and googling only gets me to medical journals so far.

He's temporarily in a care home and is supposed to be getting support from the community mental health team but it turns out they have mistakenly discharged him. I'm expecting a call from his GP tomorrow to get things back in place for him, any experience would be very helpful. TIA

No experience of it, but this is a reasonably clear explanation without too much jargon: https://www.healthline.com/health/pseudodementia

Short version - some dementia-like symptoms, but not caused by brain degeneration the way true dementia is. So it's much more treatable

What Is Pseudodementia?

Pseudodementia is a treatable form of cognitive decline that resembles dementia but is a result of another psychiatric condition like depression.

Thank you! That looks a lot better than the things I found!

Yesterday my 82 yr old mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s .
It’s taken 18 months to get to this point, but she’s been seen regularly and had lots of different appointments, including blood test, brain CT scan, brain MRI scan, regular mental health doctor appointments, heart ECG’s, and a series of 8 memory clinic sessions. They were very thorough . Pseudo dementia was mentioned in the early days as depression symptoms and Alzheimer’s symptoms are very similar so they have to rule out depression first .
So mom was firstly prescribed antidepressants and her mood and sleep improved, but her memory issues remained.
So further appointments, memory tests and MRI scans followed which led up to yesterdays diagnosis.
It’s just sinking in even though we knew it was coming .
I found it useful to write lists out of all the things mom forgot and when she behaved strangely, because in the appointment you do get side tracked and forget to mention it all. I used to email the clinic who passed it on before the appointments so the consultation had the full picture .
