ECT for medication-resistant depression

I wanted to put something up, as I looked so much for positive stories myself and found very few about elderly patients. My DF has had very bad anxiety and depression for about 2 years, with huge daily struggles, inability to make any decisions, confusion etc. He was recommended a course of ECT over 6 weeks and it has been an absolute game changer, I feel he is back to "himself" again. He is 85 so I was very worried about the strain on his body but he has coped well. Just in case anyone else is having doubts about it. Of course there are risks, and I know the effects are likely to wear off over time but it has been amazing to see him get some quality of life back, I had lost hope.

That's really good news. I always felt from the outside that dh was quite a bit better after ECT, though it was tough on him and the effect wasn't permanent.
