Advice needed about elderly relative

Sorry this isn't about a parent but an elderly relative.
I don't know all the ins and outs as it's my husbands relative and we're getting information third hand but it looks like it is going to fall to dh to sort out. Relative lives a 200 miles away.
She has dementia (Alzheimer's possibly) and recently has deteriorated badly. She is definitely no longer able to care for herself and is doing some dangerous things in the home, she lives alone. She is also getting violent, which is horrible for the family as she was never like that before.
She point blank refuses to go into any sort of care home and the carers that were coming to her home twice a day have said they can't do it anymore as it's too much for them and she needs 24 hour care. No one has medical POA.
This is something neither dh and I have ever dealt with before so have no idea what to do.
Can people be forced into care? How do we contact for help?
She owns the property she lives in btw.
Can anyone give me any pointers as to what steps we need to take or who we can contact?
Thank you

Contact your local adult social services

Get in touch with adult social care.

They need to do an assessment under the Care Act 2014 - if she won't let them in there are all sorts of measures they can take under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 initially and if there is a risk to herself or others as a result of a mental health condition they could also seek a Mental Health Act assessment although this would be a last resort.

If no one has LPOA for health and welfare then this is not something that can be managed privately (lawfully) and requires state intervention.

The GP and local Dementia Team can also assess memory and provide diagnosis which will help support Social Workers assessment. If she is unwilling to go into care and unable to care for herself but does not have capacity to understand that she can’t and is not bad enough to be sectioned under the mental health act. Social Services can apply for a court order to take her to a care home (last option) but would look at how care can be provided safely at home (first option).
